Surface - scratch the surface

I am about ready to "scratch surface" off of my Tivo Season Pass list. I have watched the first 4 episodes and so far there has been very little in the way of suspense in Surface, and the character development is painfully slow.

Robert Bianco from USA TODAY writes:

There isn't a moment of wonder or suspense in Surface, or a single performance
or character that is even remotely involving - and that includes the slimy,
electrically charged, amphibious monsters.

The only glimmer of hope that I hold out for Surface is the potentially interesting scientific (SciFi - scientific anyway) explanation of the origins of the series' ginormous and Godzilla like CGI monster.
