Eureka - New original SCIFI TV series

According to the SCIFI Channel press release, SCIFI has “greenlighted” production of the new series and ordered 13 hours of the drama, including a two-hour previously produced pilot episode.

Unfortunately for Northern Californians however, although the series is named Eureka after the Humboldt County town it supposedly takes place in, the filming of the series will not be done anywhere near Eureka… Not even in the US, but in Vancouver, Canada. Eh?

In anycase Eureka looks to be a fun new original SCIFI series with a fair amount of small screen star power including star Colin Ferguson (Coupling, Armistead Maupin's More Tales of the City), Greg Germann (Ally McBeal) Joe Morton (Paycheck, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Smallville), Debrah Farentino (The Division), and Matt Frewer (Max Headroom).

Eureka is a smart, fun series which furthers our desire to create accessible and entertaining original programming on SCIFI. This series is set in present day, on Earth, and involves characters and storylines that are relatable and intriguing with an imaginative sci-fi twist." - Mark Stern, EVP SCIFI Channel original programming
Synopsis from the SCIFI Channel website:

While transporting a teenage runaway, U.S. Marshall Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) wrecks his car in the town of Eureka. Stranded, Carter quickly discovers that Eureka is not all it appears to be, when a child vanishes in the catastrophic aftermath of an accident caused by a creation of one of the town's eccentric residents. Instinctively, he inserts himself into the investigation, working alongside the town's sheriff (Maury Chaykin) and an agent from the Department of Defense (Salli Richardson-Whitfield). As the case unfolds, Carter is let in on one of the country's best-kept government secrets: Eureka is a haven created for the world's greatest minds — a place to live, work and create. But, unknown to most of the world, mystery, conspiracy and long-simmering secrets lurk just beneath the surface of this seemingly idyllic town.
