Painkiller Jane - a SciFi Channel original series backdoor pilot

Based on the Event Comics series of the same name, Painkiller Jane stars actress Emmanuelle Vaugier (Saw II) as a army black ops agent turned AWOL super-soldier on the run (Dark Angel anyone?). Painkiller Jane premeirs Saturday, Dec. 10 on the SciFi Channel.

Synopsis from the SciFi Channel website:

“Meet Capt. Jane Elizabeth Browning (Emmanuelle Vaugier), aka "Painkiller Jane," Special Forces, U.S. Army.

Her nightmare begins when she is assigned to lead a black-ops strike team on an anti-narcotics mission to an abandoned apartment building in Sovetskoye, a town in the Chechen Republic, part of the Russian Federation.

Where Jane expects to find a heroin lab, she stumbles onto something she realizes is far more insidious and deadly. She orders her team's immediate withdrawal. They are cut off by unidentified armed troops in full hazmat gear who inexplicably open fire on Jane's unit. Jane is the last to be terminated, taking a hit in the arm, then the leg, and, finally, the chest....

Three days later, Jane awakens — alive and astonishingly well.

Recovered by the military, Jane has been sequestered in a top-secret medical installation, where Col. Watts (Richard Roundtree), her commanding officer and mentor, has deduced that something incredible has happened to Jane. Not only did she survive the attack that killed the rest of her unit; her fatal gunshot wounds have healed completely — in less than five days.

Watts and Dr. Lucas Knight (Tate Donovan), a specialist in biotoxicology assigned to Jane's case, try to unravel the mystery surrounding her miraculous recovery. They discover that her immune-response system now operates at twenty times the normal speed, making it possible for her body to heal itself at an astounding rate.

Meanwhile, Jane secretly makes some extraordinary discoveries of her own. She has become stronger and faster, and she can see and hear things with a clarity that she never possessed before. It's nothing short of superhuman.

During the months of testing that follow, Jane's status in the military is reduced to that of a lab rat, with all its inherent lack of respect and freedom. Yet her captors are no closer to uncovering the means of her miraculous resurrection. But they do know this: Jane is unlike any other human being on the planet, and they intend to unlock her body's secret and use it as a weapon.

Jane decides that the only way to understand what has happened to her is to take matters into her own hands: to escape military custody and find the people who killed her unit and infected her with the mysterious retrovirus that has changed her forever.”
