2005 RAZZIE Awards - you might be a bit surprised (I was)
I think you might be a bit surprised (I was) by a few of this year’s RAZZIE Nominees, but as usual the RAZZIE voters got more right than wrong in their nomination for the worst of the worst movies in 2005.For those of you who are not familiar with the RAZZIE Awards (or RAZZIES), the RAZZIES were created in 1980 to dis-honor or poke fun at the worst movies, actors, actresses, etc of the year. Over the years the RAZZIES have come to be known as a sort of anti-Oscar and ceremonies are traditionally held 24 hours prior to the Oscars ceremony.
Among this years dis-honored movie nominees for RAZZIES are:
The Dukes Of Hazzard and Bewitched – …and rightfully so. Hollywood has a bad habit of taking perfectly good (for their time) old TV series, dusting them off, and ruining them with bad acting and lowbrow comedy. Will Ferrell also got the dis-honor of being nominated for worst actor in both Bewitched and Kicking & Screaming. Nice going Will!
Son of the Mask – This supposed sequel is released 11-years after the original (which itself was questionable) and without its star… Who could have guessed it would be a flop?
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo – Another "comedy" sequel. Although this sequel includes the original star Rob Schneider, I find myself again questioning whether the original movie was worthy of a sequel to begin with. It was Rob Schneider worst actor nomination that landed Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo on the list.
Cheaper by the Dozen 2 – Hilary Duff was nominated for Worst Actress.
War of the Worlds – Surprise surprise, I actually liked this one (who would have guessed right. It was actually Tom Cruise who got nominated for worst actor in this one, but I would guess that has more to do with Tom’s recent PR fiasco than with his performance in the film. At this point people just plain don’t like the guy, what can I say?
Doom – Ok, I didn’t hate Doom either. Actually if you are in the mood for a good no-think action and gore movie, I would recommend it. As far as the nomination goes the RAZZIE voters call The Rock’s acting into question… but hey, it’s The Rock, what did you expect? If you wanted to see a movie with top notch acting don’t go see a movie staring The Rock for god’s sake!
NOTE: That makes 2 TV show remakes, 3 sequels, 1 movie remake, and 1 video game remake… Maybe the powers that be in Hollywood have just flat run out of new ideas.
House of Wax – Paris Hilton, need I say more?
Fantastic Four and Into the Blue – Both movies make this list due to Worst Actress nominations for Jessica Alba. My personal opinion, having seen both Fantastic Four and Into the Blue, is who needs acting when you have Jessica Alba in spandex or a bikini? (Ok I might be a pig, but I am not the only one who would go see a movie for a good looking and scantily clad actress like Jessica Alba.)
Alone in the Dark – Tara Reid as a "genius anthropologist" sure. Maybe in a bikini (see my comments on Fantastic Four and Into the Blue above). Tara Reid was nominated for Worst Actress.
Monster in Law – Jennifer Lopez was nominated for Worst Actress… Again.
