Captain Kirk tries to pass his stone on eBay

William Shatner, the popular 74 year old actor best known for playing Star Trek’s Captain Kirk and more recently a lawyer on the tv series Boston Legal, planned to sell a kidney stone he recently passed on eBay.

Now I have written about unusual eBay auctions in the past, but this one has got to be one of the most strange (and somewhat disturbing) would-be auctions I have ever heard of.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for eBay, the auction site has strict rules about the sale of body parts, even when the proceeds benefit a charity, and the auction never took place. Shatner was however able to strike up a deal with GoldenPalace.com, who in exchange for a $25,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity.

Golden Palace Chief Executive Officer Richard Rowe said of the kidney stone "This is a bold new addition to our fleet". Good for them… I guess no press is bad press!?
